Saw this production at Lincoln Center in 1988. While Sutton Foster has the dance cred over Patti Lupone, Patti can belt these lyrics out a lot more powerfully than Sutton can. The juxtaposition makes a great point of comparison between two dynamite performances, each different from the other, but equally powerful. The show is pure cornball but that’s its charm.

Just saw the London production (July, 2023) and I saw this production. The London production got raves and it can't hold a candle to this one. Not in the same league.
